Obituary of Amy Hammer

Amy Alice (Sarya) Hammer, 92, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away on Thursday morning, October 24, 2019 at the Columbine Gardens Assisted Living home, where she lived for seven years. Her four daughters were able to comfort her and express their love for her before she passed. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Amy was the daughter of John and Ida Sarya who migrated to the United States from Finland. John and Ida had two children; Amy and her younger brother, Roy, who lives in Washington. She was married to Clyde Hammer for over 50 years who passed in 2010. Amy grew up during the depression and lived through many challenges that strengthened her character. At 16, her first job was a cashier at “Woolworth’s”, then she accepted a job with the Naval Communications Center as a teletype operator contributing to the war effort. Once she was married, Amy took great responsibility for raising four daughters by becoming a full-time mother for much of her adult life. In the early years, she was the sole parent for half of the year while her husband was out to sea on oil tankers fulfilling his Port Engineer duties. Once her daughters were grown and married off, she loved to create beautiful paintings and intricate pen and ink images. She was a big fan of reading and showing her love of animals large and small. Spending time with family was her favorite pastime. Amy had a special personality that charmed many who grew to love her deeply. Her sense of humor brought sunshine to those around her, even when she was in pain. Amy is survived by her four daughters Janie Petrosine; husband Bruce, Geri Heyne; husband Bill, Vanessa Mooneyham; husband Jah, Candace Lovato; husband Nick and her four grandchildren, Laura Lovato, Luke Heyne, Alicia Lovato, Sean Heyne and one great grandchild, Evelyn Heyne.
