Obituary of Mike Joseph Barros

Mike Joseph Barros passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 in Denver, CO at the age of 67.

Mike is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Kathy (Paul), Mike Jr. (Jen), Birdy (Louis), Marc, Paul (Jackie), and Mercedez (Adrian); his grandchildren Eric, Portia (Joey), Aleena, Alexis, Draven, Mikey, Jada, Demarcus, Caitlyn, Ashley, Elijah, Lily, Charlie, Alex, and Lena; and his brothers and sisters, Lulu, Carmen, Cathy, Bobby, Bart, Anthony (Dickey), and Berny (Red). He is preceded in death by his father, Mike Barros, his mother, Delores Barros, and his sister, Alberta Barros.

Mike was born on January 6, 1953, in Denver, CO. Mike entered the Navy in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1971. In 1972 he married Judy. Following his time in the Navy, he moved back to Denver where he opened and operated Barros Custom Woodworking. Over 48 years of marriage Mike and Judy welcomed six children into their home and set about teaching them woodworking skills. His children remember him as a hardworking, dedicated, strong, generous father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Mike was an accomplished singer and often took his talents to the karaoke stage. He also loved collecting, restoring, and showing classic cars and was especially passionate about ‘58 and ’64 Chevy Impalas. This passion led to several of his cars being featured in Low Rider magazine.

A viewing and memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on January 21st, 2020 at St Jude Catholic Church located at 9405 W Florida Ave, Lakewood, CO 80232 with a reception to follow at the same location. Father Bob will officiate the ceremony. There will also be a ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors on January 27, 2020, at 3:00 pm. Those desiring to attend the military ceremony should enter the cemetery at the North Gate off of Sheridan Ave and gather at Staging Area A no later than 2:45 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mike's life. The family would like to thank the VA hospital staff for their care and dedication. They would also like to thank his family and closest friends who stood by his side while he battled cancer and traveled through this life journey.
