Victor, you are my oldest and best friend! There are so many memories I have to share, picking one is tough. One that stands out to me is “Bobbies Hole” in Utah. What a trip that was! For those who don’t know, we had intended on a camping trip in Utah, simple as that. We had borrowed Jim’s (Vic’s step dads truck) and everything was going fine, until we came across Bobbies Hole. The map said frequently impassable to 4 wheel drive vehicles so we thought we would just take a look and see. We headed down a little incline leading into the hole and realized there was no way we would make it, but it was too late. We were on loose sand and the wheels did nothing but spin as we tried to reverse back to the top of the little incline we had traversed down. Being in the middle of nowhere and having not seen a person for several days we had no choice but to proceed down. To make a long story short we eventually made it down to the bottom of the canyon, took about 8 hours to go less than a quarter mile. Victor was driving the truck (really Victor was standing on the break and letting the truck roll once in a while) and I was stacking rocks under the tires as we inched our way down the incline (the majority of the way down there were three wheels in contact with the ground and I had to stack rocks under the 4th to allow us to move forward). When we reached the bottom it was pitch dark outside so we slept in the truck that night and awoke in the morning to three choices, go left, go right or go straight. By this time we had about a quarter tank of gas left and had no idea which way to go (our map ended at the top of Bobbies hole)! We picked left and drove for hours wondering when we would run out of gas. We came across a place called “Ruin Park” a place filled with Native American artifacts, it was simply beautiful. Eventually we stumbled onto a highway (never saw a single person) and made it out, but for a while we were both wondering how this would end. We returned Jim's truck to him, though it didn’t resemble the truck we borrowed, and walked away with memories we spoke about for years to follow. That was simply the best camping trip I have ever been on. Brother I miss you! I will miss our misadventures and your friendship forever! You were a good man, a great father and an amazing friend! Rest easy my brother and please be there to greet me when the time comes.
