Obituary of Norman E. Harpole
Norman E. Harpole was born September 10, 1933, in Elsberry, Lincoln County, Missouri, the only child of Claude and Margaret Harpole. He was a sickly child all the time they lived there. Claude’s job took them to St. Louis County and Norm’s health improved right away.
Claude transferred as a civilian employee of the Air Force to Denver, Colorado. Norm attended East High School, where he met Vivian. While they were dating Norm got his draft notice. He went to basic training in California, upon completion of basic training he came home to Denver and married Vivian in October 1954.
Returning to Ft. Ord for advanced training he then was sent to Japan. He was in a headquarters outfit, which he described as a country club.
They lived in south Denver, and Lakewood before moving to Colorado Springs. When Vivian retired they moved to Covenant Village, now Covenant Living, in 2001.
Most of Norm’s working life was spent as a purchasing manager, where he spent money for a living. Fortunately, it was other people’s money as it was sometimes a very large amount.
Norm was a man of strong faith in the finished work of Jesus and strove to serve in any way possible. God gave him the opportunity to help start a church in Lakewood, help with a planned church division in Colorado Springs, start Faith Covenant Church and watch it birth a daughter church.
Norm was active with the police department in Westminster and volunteered with them for many years. He continued to host the monthly meeting of the Christian Police Officers group until just before his death.
Norm also did a variety of jobs for veterans. He always said, “If veterans don’t take care of each other, who will?”
An avid learner Norm read all the time, especially the Bible and Bible studies. God allowed him to teach many Bible-oriented classes.
Norm entered heaven March 5, 2020 surrounded by peace and love. Peace to his memory.
Norm is survived by his wife Vivian, two children, their spouses, and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Benevolent fund at Covenant Living of Westminster, CO.
