La Verna Clara Pfaff

La Verna Clara Pfaff
La Verna was born January 30th, 1928 and Passed away peacefully on Sunday June 14th, 2020 in her home in Lakewood, Co at the age of 92.
La Verna grew up on a small farm outside of Muenster, Tx. along with 10 other siblings. She attended High School and took some College Courses in Gainesville while working at the Gainesville Sanitarium. She then went to The St Anthony’s Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City, OK. and completed her Nursing course graduating in 1953. As a registered Nurse she helped care for countless lives. Her favorite area of nursing was the Neonatal Care Unit and least favorite was the Emergency rooms. She worked in Several of the Denver Area Hospitals and St Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, Co was where she did her last rounds as a Hospital Nurse.
La Verna and her husband met in Denver and were Married in 1955 at Christ the King Church in Evergreen, Co. They then had four children and moved to the (then small) mountain town of Evergreen Colorado to raise them. She continued her career in nursing in the local clinic continuing to care for patients in the surrounding area as well as helping with trauma patients whom had to be transported to Denver via Flight for Life from across the street where the helicopters would land. When the family moved back to the Denver Metro area, she continue to care for people as a private nurse.
She leaves behind her husband, Leonard and children David, Dale, Cynthia, and Gregory among many, many Grand Children and Great Grand Children. One of the things they will always remember is her wide grin of exasperation when joking with her, the caring for all the grand children when they were sick and her desire to teach her children everything she had to share. With her husband she instilled a sense of ethics and decency that live on through them and those she touched.
La Verna’s favorite Hobbies were Gardening and Sewing and sharing both with all that wanted to learn. She loved teaching her hobbies to anyone who she could. And she taught Alot of them….
She is also survived by her siblings, Marian Starke Gruber, Jo Ann Starke Snyder, Mildred Starke Miller and her brother Henry Starke.
Due to Covid 19 and La Verna’s care for everyone’s health, we are going to have a small family gathering here at her home to celebrate her life. Following all current guidelines possible on July 11th, 2020.

A family gathering will be planned for later on this summer when time provides and Leonard and Family can all attend.
