Obituary of Raymond Whatley

Raymond Whatley died peacefully at his home on the morning of June 29, 2020, at the age of 86. Raymond was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado and grew up on a farm outside of Ft. Collins. He graduated from Annunciation High School and was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict.

 

He formed his own band where he played in numerous weddings, parties and dances throughout Colorado with his brother, Frank. He worked in the grocery service for 47 years where he retired and enjoyed life to the fullest until his passing. He enjoyed a good BBQ and an ice cold Budweiser or two.

 

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Antonia Whatley, his brother Frank Whatley, his son James Whatley, daughter Cynthia Ortega (Demetrius), step-son Angelo Ochoa (Courtney), 18 grand children and 26 great grand children. Proceeded in death by his late wife, Marie E. Whatley, parents, Marion and Carmen Whatley, sister Dorothy Evans and step son’s Michael and Ernie Ochoa.

 

The services will be on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. Viewing at 9:00 am, rosary at 9:15 am and the mass to follow at 10:00 am at Our lady of Grace Church, 2645 E. 48th Avenue, Denver, CO. Church will allow up to 125 people. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet at 1 pm. No procession and Mt. Olivet will only allow 50 people at the gravesite due to COVID-19.

 

For those who cannot attend or live out of town and cannot travel, mass will be streamed live via Cynthia Ortega’s facebook account at 10 am.
