Abelino Madrid 1932-2020

Abelino “Bill” Madrid of Denver, Colorado was called home at the age of 88 on August 26, 2020. Billy’s lifelong commitment to his family will be greatly missed. He lived the last 5 years in a nursing home battling Alzheimer’s. These last 6 months were a difficult time for Billy and his family who were unable to have personal contact with him, at the nursing home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic where visits were limited to seeing him through a window.

Billy was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on May 20, 1932. He relocated to Denver, Colorado after meeting and marrying his wife Mary Rita. Billy was second to the oldest of 7 siblings. Billy enlisted in the Army at age 20. He was stationed in Fort Leonardwood, MO from 1952 -1954 before being shipped off to Korea. At the end of his military service, Billy returned to Denver and used his veteran benefits to buy a home for his family.

At an early age, Billy developed a dedicated work ethic and desire to better himself through education and getting a good job that would allow him to contribute to his family’s well-being and the rest of the world in whatever helpful way he could. His family was his life. He loved having outdoor family gatherings as often as possible, and for any occasion, just so the family could get together. He enjoyed barbequing, fishing, camping, hunting, and just sitting outside in his backyard.

Billy did not like to sit still for very long. He was the type of person who was always doing something. He had his hand in everything, whether it was working to provide for his family, helping his kids with a house project, or spending time with his grandkids.

Billy is survived by his wife Rita; his children, Hector, Cindy, and Michael, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Stephen.

Billy will greatly be missed. The Lord has called him home, and home he will rest.
