Obituary of Robert Charles Nelson Ohlinger

Robert Charles Nelson Ohlinger died peacefully on the evening of September 4, 2020 after a long battle with Alheizmer’s disease. Bob was born on December 2, 1931 in Queens, New York to Frieda and John Ohlinger. Bob is a veteran of the United States Army in the rank of Private Second Class where he served during the Korean War.

Bob moved his family to Colorado after falling in love with the state while he was stationed in Denver. Bob raised his family in Conifer, Colorado in a house that he built. During his time in Conifer, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, a volunteer fireman for the Elk Creek Fire Department, and a founding member of the Elk Creek search and rescue team.

Bob had a gentle soul and a wonderful sense of humor. Bob also loved animals. He always kept dog treats in his pockets to give to any dogs he would see. Even in his advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, his kindness, humor, and love of animals never wavered.

Bob was a dedicated husband to Barbara, his wife of 65 years. Their love was everlasting and lifelong. He passed away 74 days after her.

He is survived by his son, Robert and his wife, Janna; his daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Larry; five grandkids; and five great grandkids.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 23, 2020 at Fort Logan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association. Bob was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
