I have so many fond memories of Aunt Alice. Two that really stand out are a family gathering in Pueblo, and the vacation Rich and I spent on the Leadville property.
Many years ago when we all got together in Pueblo to celebrate a family member’s high school graduation, it had been a long time since I had seen Alice. Not surprising, she had not changed a bit since our last visit. Alice was still bubbling with love and enthusiasm, and having no trouble keeping up with her grand-niece and nephews at yard games and activities.
Alice’s exceptional energy and physical stamina was always an inspiration to me, but during a visit to the Leadville property it became a challenge! She had us up early shoveling snow, then we moved on to a long hike, followed by a scrumptious lunch to fuel up for an afternoon of log splitting. As we explored hiking trails and did chores around the property, we reminisced about summer days at the Lake in Connecticut where I was lovingly picked on by my cousins Brian, Chuck and Cindy.
It is difficult to express what a wonderful person and positive influence Alice was. I feel truly blessed that she was a part of my life. I wish we had been able to spend more time together and cherish the moments we did.

I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet Alice Joan Wheeland Cichowitz.
Destiny brought me into The Cichowitz family, as I spent a year with them as an exchange student while they lived in Escondido, California. It was 1975 / 1976 and all I can say is that it was a year filled with learning experiences; all which are glued to both my heart and my mind forever.
I proudly call myself her panamanian son, even if we did not get to spend our whole lives together. I had the privilege to know all the excellent traits she possessed, as a mother, a wife and a friend. She was always willing to support us in every way. She was a loving woman with an unbreakable spirit. She will always be like a second mom to me, and I will always keep her present in my heart.
Fortunately, Alice was actually able to come visit me to Panama, along with Chuck and Lindy in 2014. We spent a week visiting places, she got to know my family and we shared a great time together. That is why today I tell Alice.. don’t ever think I will forget you, I have a special place for you in my heart. I will meet you in eternity. See you then, Mom
Your Panama son, Leo

I remember Alice or "Cindy's mom & Mikayla's Grandma" (as I knew her) helping at 4H horse shows. She always had a smile and was willing to do anything to help out. Reading this obituary makes me understand where Cindy got her wonderful kindness and willingness to help also.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family
