Obituary of Byron Roger Sigg

Byron Sigg, 77, of Lakewood, CO, passed peacefully at home the morning of September 23, 2020.

Byron was born October 13, 1942 in Denver, CO to George and Josephine (Mastrangelo) Sigg. Byron was a loving husband, the best dad (best dog dad, too), a fun and caring grampa, great brother and a wonderful son.

Byron grew up in Wheat Ridge, Co and graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in 1960 and Georgetown University in 1964 with a degree in economics. He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret and served as part of the 8th SF Group in Bolivia in 1967.

Byron spent the majority of his life working as a Cabinet Maker. He has left his family and friends with some beautiful reminders of how talented and skilled he was. In addition to these skills he could fix or build anything. He had a warm, loving heart, big smile and a tremendous laugh. He loved being with family, making homemade ravioli’s at Christmas, drinking “his” wine, listening to classical music, studying history and economics and spending time in Saguache, CO and Taos, N.M.

Byron was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (brain cancer) Stage 4 on Aug 30, 2014 and given a 1-2 year survival rate. He underwent surgery September 2, 2014. He returned home after a short stay in the hospital to start the fight of his life. He had radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks while taking a low dose of chemotherapy. After completing radiation he went on a regime of a much higher dose of chemotherapy, 5 days on, 23 days off. We continued to live with our “new normal” knowing the cancer could return at anytime. Every clear MRI gave us the hope we were looking for. On May 7, 2020 Byron had his scheduled MRI, within an hour we received the devastating news, the Glioblastoma had returned and spread to a larger area. He had a second brain surgery May 20, 2020 followed by a brain bleed on May 23, 2020 which required yet another brain surgery. He spent 37 days in the hospital. After numerous trips and stays back to the hospital over the summer and almost 6 years taking chemotherapy treatment, Byron let go of this life here on earth.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry, 4 children, Brandon, Angela, Ben and Michael, 5 grandchildren, Anikah, Jazmine, Janeen, Michael and Matthew, sister, Barbara, and the loyal family GSD who slept by his side - Kaya. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Pete.

Byron was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
