Obituary of Beverly Caley

On Thursday, October 15, 2020 Beverly Caley, loving wife, mother, grandma and Gigi (great grandma), passed away at the age of 84.

Beverly was born on April 30, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to John Wesley Grossman and Ruth Madell (Howell) Grossman. Beverly had 5 siblings, John, JoAnne, Gene, Karl and Dianne.

Beverly met the love of her life, Charles William Caley while attending Open Bible College in Des Moines, Iowa. Chuck’s brother David & his wife Kay introduced them.  They were married on July 25, 1958. They raised one son, Charles Jr. and two daughters, Joy and Ruth.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Grossman, brothers, John and Gene and Sister JoAnne.  Also her loving husband Charles. She is survived by her son, Charles Jr and her daughters Joy and Ruth. Also eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Beverly truly had a servant’s heart.  She loved and served everyone she came in contact with. She would invite new neighbors over for tea even if her home was not spotless. I think she just knew how to make everyone feel comfortable and at home.  In each of the homes we lived in she looked for ways to serve her new neighbors.  God always seemed to place someone next door that she could care for in order to bring God glory.  She lovingly cared for a neighbor with MS for many years.  Another neighbor had Alzheimer’s and his wife needed help as she aged.  Beverly had felt God’s call on her life to be a missionary nurse to Africa.  In recent years she reflected back that she never felt as though she “missed” God’s call, but that God had chosen to use her in a different way.  She said she was able to share Jesus and was seen many times at her couch on her knees in prayers for those she cared for.

When she wasn’t caring for neighbors her heart was drawn to the elderly.  She volunteered to work at a nursing home and because of the genuine love and care for the patients, they ended up hiring her.  She worked as the activities director for a number of years where she served far above and beyond her job description.  Another way she served the elderly was in “The Golden Years” group at Amazing Grace Church.  She planned pot lucks and outings for many years.  She was dearly loved by everyone she served.

She certainly loved life and lived it to the fullest!  She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds.  Painting, making jewelry and card making were just a few of the things she enjoyed.  Ruth and Joy enjoyed doing those things with her as well!  She was also quite the thrill seeker.  She fulfilled a lifelong dream and went skydiving for her 74^th birthday and she also went zip lining across the Royal Gorge for her 80^th birthday.

She ABSOLUTELY LOVED the snow.  She loved making up a pot of hot cocoa, packing up the inner tubes and sleds for a fun day in the snow.  She loved traveling with her husband to numerous states and countries.  Beverly enjoyed nature walks with Charles as well as scenic drives.  She also loved her Denver Broncos and “her boy”, John Elway.  I think everyone enjoyed watching the games with her.  It was so much fun to hear her yell and jump for her team.  After moving to Cotopaxi, Beverly enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the birds, beautiful scenery and all the wildlife.  As they were wheeling her out to the ambulance she said “Look at all the deer!”

Her beautiful alto voice will be missed!  She loved to praise her Lord in song.  Beverly and Charles sang together in their Bible college singing group before they had even been introduced.  So many memories of her and Charles singing together at church in duets, trios and quartets.  Every evening their voices could be heard through the computer room door after they finished their devotions together.  Such a beautiful sound!  Beverly had always said “If I ever get to the point where I am bed bound, put on the gospel music and let it play!”  We are so thankful she was surrounded by loved ones singing to her as God called her home.  Praise God for this incredible woman!  Heaven is sounding sweeter all the time!
