Warren was on my mind today and I typed this name in startpage and the obituary came up. My condolences to his family. Back in the mid 70s I met Warren at the parts counter at a Chevrolet dealer. I had found a mint 55 Chevy and it had a six cylinder and I set out to build a 283 cubic inch V8 which I mated to a four speed Borg Warner transmission. I had a lot of parts acquisition ahead of me, pistons, heads, lifters, camshaft, bell housing, motor mounts etc., etc., the list was a mile long. I suspect my enthusiasm for cars impressed him and prompted him to help me. “Vintage Tin” was the “purchaser” of all the parts which I bought making it much easier on my limited budget for building my 55 finished just in time to drive to an oldies rock and roll concert in downtown Denver. I’ll always remember Woody’s interest and help to a stranger building his nostalgic dream machine. He was truly a rare individual my life was better for knowing him. Bryan Jensen. Bradenton Florida

Woody drove the fastest most fun car on the CS U campus. I remember driving with him to sell the 55 Fordillac to Greeley to sell. Scared me to death!
We both worked at the KAT house in 57-58 as houseboys. Woody stood up for me at my wedding to Mary Ann Everly in 59. I have great memories of Woody. What a guy!

Woody's obituary in today's newspaper was a surprise that brought back fond memories. You don't know me, but when he and I attended CSU, and he was busboy for the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, we went to a couple of campus dances together. Woody was also an instructor at the local Arthur Murray dance studio. Did Woody ever love to dance, and we jitterbugged the night away! Then he went on his way, and I, mine, but over the many years, I have often thought of how fun and dear Woody was. Thank you for the memories, Woody!! And to his family, my sincere condolences. Woody, you were, indeed, special. Alicia (Smith) Merritt

Woody was a second father to me. Growing up, I think I spent more time at their house than my own. I have wonderful memories of cooking him and Sue breakfast. It consisted of fried bologna and orange juice. Not sure if they were just pretending to like it. Woody had always been someone I could turn to for advice and help of any kind. He was a kind, compassionate, and giving man. The world has truly lost a special person. My condolences to the entire family.

The world has lost a truly unique person that inspired so many. Woody was one of a kind. His ever-curious traits led him in so many directions. He could have been satisfied building bulletproof engines for hot rods and drag racers. He could have been satisfied leading the social services department for Adams County. He could have been satisfied being a Realtor, or being a landlord. He could have even settled for being a great father and friend.
However, Woody excelled at all of this, and even more. What a wonderful man. Whenever I met up with him, his beaming smile showed me he was glad I stepped into his life that day. His easy going manner hid brilliance. I often relied on his keen insight for direction, especially when dealing with other humans.
Woody always was quick to tell me what his life partner was doing, as he was so much in love with Sue. Woody would follow up with Whitney's and John's most recent accomplishments. And then....onto the grand kids, from watching them as tots to crowing about their adult exploits.
I grew up without a father. Without realizing it (or maybe he did know), Woody served as a model of what I could become. I may have made it to 30 percent of the man Woody was.
Our time together certainly raced by. In 1973 at age 18, I met Woody and Sue at Barbara's house at 6th and Downing. At age 66, I mourn the loss of a lifelong friend. Heaven has a new star, one with twinkling eyes, an ever-present laugh, and that beaming smile.
