Obituary of Odell William Orr

Odell Orr, 68 years of age, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital in Colorado.

Odell was born October 28, 1952 in College Park, GA to the late Lamar and Dorothy Orr. He was the youngest of 6 children, 2 preceded him in death. Odell leaves to cherish his loving memory his children Michelle, Renee, Brandon, and his son by marriage Michael and 7 grandchildren Jaxon, Carter, Lacy, Payton, Emily, Dominic and Devin, brothers Phillip and Curtis and sister Roberta. He had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends that will miss him dearly.

Odell met the love of his life Kelly in 1986 and for 33 years they worked and dreamed together. Odell professed his life to Christ in 1987 shortly after they met.

Odell's childhood was spent in Minneapolis, MN. His family was very poor so his brother Phil made him a shoe shine box to make money with. He would shine shoes at the local bars and called his business The Beatle Shine. He was soon giving and lending money to others in the neighborhood. It was there he developed entrepreneurial skills early in life that served him until he died. He moved to Colorado in his teens and started working in the Auto Body and Paint Business. He won best enamel paint job 3 years in a row at the Tristate Auto Show at the Coliseum in the early 70's. He was drafted into the Armed Forces at Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 1972. He served until 1978 spending 4 years at Camp George West. He earned the badges Ex Qual Auto Rifle, Ex Qual H/G, SS Qual M16 and NDSM. After the military he became an almost self taught watchmaker owning Fine Watch Repair in Downtown Denver until the late 80's. He was known throughout the US for his expertise and ability to fix what others could not. He soon had a prestigious clientele that included actors Ed Asner, Bill Cosby, Don Johnson, Conway Twitty and more. He decided to move on when Rolex parts became hard to obtain so in the early 90's he began building his new bride a home on an acre of property in Lakewood. They first purchased an old farmhouse with chicken coups in the backyard and made it habitable. Then as they got on their feet they made plans for a huge remodel. With eyes bigger than their pocket book he wheeled and dealed his way to almost completion. A beautiful 4,000sq ft home accomplished with only finish work left. He was a talented and gifted man. He was the contractor and worked with 2-3 young men when he could find someone to help build his dream. He did his own plumbing, heating , electrical, framing, insulation and drywall, roofing, siding and stone work and more. It took many years with many trials but he would always say "Rest if you will but do not Quit". His ability to persevere through trial was unmatched! The last 6 years of his life he accomplished another dream.. The dream to own his own Pawnshop. There was no stopping his ambitions. He loved his shop GoldWest Pawn and Jewelry in Golden. He would make his wife smile when he would say people who came into his shop say they love it. It was unique in style.

Odell did more in his life than 10 men. He was kind, generous , passionate about his work and those he loved and loved his Lord. He would go out of his way to help even strangers. He was his wife's super man and hero.
