Its been real hard on me hearing the passing of my good friend, mentor, and football affectionado. We first met at The "Chidlaw Bldg" 1986, Spacecom/DA, our gang consisted of Bill, John, myself, Mark, Dave, Janine, Vince, and the Hook (RIP). We were a tight-knit group and enjoy our time working and playing together. Bill and I have remained friends and in contact since and beyond our military days. Bill loved sports, football, softball, bowling, you name it. Each year, we chided each other and complained about our respective football teams and their lack of post season appearances. He was a good friend indeed and I'm truyly going to miss him dearly. We made it a point to always stay in contact with each other and for over 30 years we did. Clar and family I want you to know although Bill may no longer be with us physically he will forever be within our hearts and memories. Rest in Peace good buddy. May God bless and watch over you as you watch over us.

Chief Burkland had known me since I was a boy and all the way into my 50's.
I even had the unique privilege to see him at least weekly at work when I was just starting my career and he was wrapping his up.
His enthusiasm for Life, Sports, Family, and Friends was unmatched!!!
That Smile and Zest I will always carry with me.
Condolences,
Donnie Edwards

I knew Bill during my time at building 1 at Peterson AFB, and from day one he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. Even after I retired from the Air Force and started working up at Cheyenne Mountain AFS, CO, we stayed in touch. Our team the Denver Broncos kept us together through the years...I will surely miss him deeply. RIP Bill, and prays to all his family. Al Samuels.

I knew Bill from the end of his military career and into his Civil Service career. I was lucky enough to work side by side with him some of those years where I got to better know this kind, caring man who could tell you anything about sports and his teams. Our IM Group is definitely going to miss you Bill. Rest In Peace. My heart and prayers go out to Clarice, Lisa and Laurie. God bless.

Bill will forever be Chief Burkland and a dear friend. He was the leader of the Chidlaw Bldg Gang-AIr Force (Bill, Toney, John, Jeanette, Dave, Mark, Vince, Stansell, Everett and The Hook and a few others whose name escapes me). Always rooting for the Bronco’s against my Cowboys. Chief was involved in so many sports activities. There are so many good memories to pick one is impossible. All I can say is that I will indeed miss him. When we met, he began as a supervisor, mentor, but he became a lifelong friend. Rest In Peace dear Friend! Chief (Ret) Toney Parker

I met Bill in 1989 when I was stationed at Peterson AFB. We became friends immediately and always made it a point to visit with each other when we could. We worked together a number of years in Building 1 at Peterson and maintained our friendship over the years even after we both retired. We were both Denver Bronco fans and talked often about each season. I was also a member of the breakfast club until I moved back to Alaska where my military career began. I have always considered him a very good friend and I will miss our Bronco talks and just our talks in general He was a very kind and friendly individual who cared deeply about his family and military family and friends. He will be greatly missed. God bless you my friend. Rest in Peace and keep watch over all of us.

He I’m Clarice’s sister Sharon and I have clear memories of when I first got to know Bill. I was working at the Fort Carson post exchange and a fellow in an Air Force uniform came in which was sort of unusual since this is an army base. Bill was notable (beside the uniform) because he just lit up PX with his friendly chatter, smiling face and it didn’t hurt that he was a cutie too. I always looked forward to his need to shop because he almost always stopped at my counter for a few friendly words. One evening we were having a certain amount of snow and I got in my car to go home and it wouldn’t start.
What to do, what to do?? Bill was leaving about that time and saw my distress and he took matters in hand and pushed my car with his vehicle to our quarters which thankfully were not far from the PX.
Through our acquaintance Bill met my sister Clarice and as you I’m can imagine the rest is history. As for me I’ll always remember the knight in shining armor who came to help me that snowy evening.
May he Rest In Peace
