Obituary of Joan Kathleen Covey

Joan Kathleen (Kathy) Covey, 68, passed away early Saturday morning, June 26, 2021, at her home in Ft. Morgan, Colorado.

Kathy was born August 12, 1952 in San Diego, California, and raised by parents Bruce C. and Eddye F. (Waskom) Phillips. She was the second of four children in the family, who all grew up in the military with a father who was a U.S Army Captain. They resided in many places including Germany where Kathy attended high school. She moved to Aurora, Colorado, where she met her future husband, Milo Covey, on January 19, 1982.

On October 15, 1983, Kathy and Milo were married at the Aurora Baptist Church in Aurora, after which they enjoyed over 37 years of marriage. Kathy and Milo resided in Aurora, moved to Nashville, TN for a few years, and then settled in Ft. Morgan, Colorado in May of 1990. For many years they travelled to Pharr, Texas where they lived during the winter, and returned to their home in Ft. Morgan for the summer.

Kathy enjoyed travelling, being a homemaker, cooking, decorating, cross-stitching, and doing puzzles. She attended services at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ft. Morgan.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, and is survived by her beloved husband, Milo Covey, three brothers, Nicky Don Phillips (Lynn) of Gold Hill, Oregon; Kenneth Irwin (Rendee) Phillips of Homer, Alaska, and James Ronald (Naomi) Phillips of West Valley City, Utah, and also a dear cousin, Cindy Shivers of China Springs, Texas.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in August at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
