James Rentschler

Obituary of James Frederick Rentschler

Lt. Col. James (Jim) Rentschler passed away on July 1st, 2021 in Colorado Springs, at age 87, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept. 27, 1933 in Frankfort, Indiana to John and Mary Rentschler.

Jim was proud to serve his country for 25 years as a pilot in the Air Force. He was also very proud to serve three Presidents in the White House, (Nixon, Ford and Carter). Jim also worked for Prison Fellowship with Charles Colson; and he enjoyed working as the Concierge at The Broadmoor for 17 years. Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. But the job he enjoyed most was serving at The Marion Soup Kitchen for 15 years.

“Jimpa” will be remembered for his faith, his love of family, his quick-witted sense of humor, and his humble, servant leader attitude. He loved fishing at Farish, his favorite spot. He loved baseball and, at the age of 80, he attended a game at every ballpark in the country, making new friends at every game. As a devoted follower of Jesus, he was always helping someone.

Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty, who he first met in the 8th grade in Frankfort, Indiana; his children, Cathy, David, Lisa and Chris, and their spouses; his eleven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John, of Waco, TX, and sister, Linda, of Frankfort, IN. He was preceded in death by his brothers Bob and Tom.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, July 22 2021 at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
