Obituary of Velma Ruth Anderson

Velma Ruth Anderson graduated from her early existence and returned to her heavenly home on October 17, 2021. Velma passed away quietly with her husband Wayne and family around her. She is survived by her husband, Wayne, all four of her children: Thomas (Geri), Rebecca (Randall), Steven (Janine), and David (Erica). Also surviving are her two sisters: Marlene (Arland) Aamodt and Vicky (Jack) Oglesby, seven grandchildren: Shauna (Brandon), Stephen (Sarah), Caitlin, Jordan (Haley), Kailyn (Allen), Tyler, Joe, and three great-grandchildren: Makena, Jaiden, Brody.

Born in Anoka, MN on the 10th of December 1928, Velma was the third of five children in the family of Fred and Ruth Wanbaugh: Dorothy, Donald, Velma, Marlene, Vicky. Velma graduated high school the spring of 1947 from Elmwood High School. Velma met Wayne Anderson during the summer of 1948 and announced their engagement in August of 1948. They married on the 30th of October 1948 and were married at the time of her passing (72 years, 11 months, and 17 days).

Velma and Wayne started farming the Ed Stier farm after the wedding and soon moved to Spring Valley, WI in 1952. While in Spring Valley Velma fixed meals for the guys working in the fields and served on the Ladies Aid at Gilman Lutheran church. Her parents and sisters lived close so many family gatherings occurred during that time. In 1968, the Anderson family moved to the Twin Cities where Velma worked at J.C. Penny’s then in 1973 the family moved to Arvada, Colorado where she worked in retail at Joslins/Dillards until she retired. Velma and Wayne loved to travel, so after both had retired, many trips were taken. The two of them cherished going to and watching their children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s games.

Velma was a kind, compassionate, loving woman who always looked to laugh and show others love. She was an example of unconditional love and always looked to make others feel loved, no matter who they were. Her true joy was her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished reading books to her grandchildren, teaching them arithmetic, cursive handwriting and teaching them songs. Velma loved nothing more than her husband and second to that, her

family. She valued anytime family would gather, eat and be merry. Velma left a legacy of joy, laughter, love and overall enjoyment of life.

In Velma’s later years, dementia took hold of her. As her Dementia progressed, the one thing she continued to say was she loved Wayne and continued to tell each and every family member she loved them. She never stopped being genuine in all she was; keeping true to the love in her heart and always looking to make others laugh, always.

Services for Velma will be held on December 11th, 2021
