Obituary of Robert Eugene Moose

   Robert Eugene Moose, age 86, passed away on November 13, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado after a battle with a long illness. He was born on June 15, 1935 in Woodsfield, Ohio to Rodger Moose and Edna Irene Estil Moose.

Growing up in Ohio Robert met the love of his life, Rosemary Elaine Slade (born in Chester, Ohio) and the two were married in Columbus, Ohio in 1962.

Robert earned his Master’s Degree in Geodetic Science from Ohio State University from Columbus, Ohio and worked for the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) as a Geodetic Scientist.

Robert joined the United States Air Force and before being honorably discharged he earned the rank of Sergeant. While stationed in Japan, Robert climbed Mt. Fujiyama. Robert was an avid hiker and a life time member of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. He hiked the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgian to Maine. After moving to Custer County in 2000, he became a member of the Mountain Council. Robert volunteered with the Custer County Search and Rescue for many years. He enjoyed hiking throughout Colorado and Canada. Astronomy was also a hobby for Robert. He spent many hours in his own observatory gazing at the stars. Robert loved living in the mountains and looking out over the Sangre de Cristo Range.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Rodger and Edna Moose, and brother, Kenneth Moose.

Those left behind to cherish Robert’s memory are loving wife, Rosemary Slade Moose, brother, Richard Moose and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Robert at a later time.
