Met Doug working at CPCD IT, his contagious smile, ARMY tales, and stories about his family will always be in my memory, wishing strength to his family on this difficult times, you will be greatly missed.
"A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed, it feels an impulsion...
this is the place to go now.
But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds,
and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons."

Doug was BEYOND life!! I knew he & Nichole belonged together the first time I met them. He so loved his family, friends, and life! Mary & Tom meant the world to him. Thank you all for sharing him with us! This world will not be the same without his smiling face & "bad dad jokes". "I'm tried, thirsty, & hungry"....."Glad to meet you tired: I'm Doug".....

Doug's office was down the hall from my Early Head Start classroom. One of my last day wishes was to leave my beloved small wooden classroom catapult toy to Doug. I apologized to his officemates ("sorry, I just gave Doug a small catapult") and wished him happiness sharing it with his little Tommy. As I opened the door to leave, I turned to say good-bye to my work friend as he sat smiling at his desk holding the toy. His face was kind, friendly, and loving. A couple of years later, he brought his family in to the YMCA where I was working. I was delighted to see him enjoying a bit of Saturday fun with his wife and children. That was the last time I saw him and will always remember his genuine nature - everyone he met was a friend. He embodied the belief that we can each find connections with others from whom we differ if we can take the time to discover and embrace our commonalities...and if we can learn to forgive.

Although I never met Doug in person, I felt like I did. He and Nicole took my daughter under their wings when she moved to Colorado. They became great friends back in Illinois back in the 1990’s. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Nicole, Abby, Tommy and to all who knew him and love him.
