Obituary of Joyce Yvonne Barbour

Joyce Yvonne Barbour

Joyce Yvonne Barbour, 86, of Centennial, Co, passed away at Skyridge Hospital on Monday, June 13th, 2022.

Born July 22, 1935, in Wishek, North Dakota to Willie and Ida Herr, she was the third youngest of 11 siblings.  She grew up on the family farm and had a very close relationship with her two younger sisters. They had various chores from milking the cows to feeding the chickens, but she kept very busy doing everything necessary to keep the farm going.

After graduating from High School in 1954 she attended Nurses Training in Bismarck, North Dakota.  She always had a very kind heart and a knack for helping others and nursing was her calling to allow her to achieve just that.  Her first nursing job was in Miles City, Montana and she did that for several years.

In 1960 she heard that there was a shortage for nurses in Denver, Colorado and she decided to make the move.  She relocated to the Mile High City and within the first week of being here she got a job at Rose Medical Center. She held various positions from working in the ER, working in the clinic, being head nurse, and her favorite, working in the well-baby nursery. Denver was good to her as she was able to ski, camp, 4-wheel, and fish and most importantly be an avid Denver Bronco Fan.  She always found time to make it back home to Wishek, ND to visit family and friends. Occasionally, she would bring home cases of Coors in the back of her charger for everyone to enjoy!

She met Charles Barbour in 1975 and they were married for 33 years. She relocated from Wash Park area in Denver, Co to Centennial, Co and the neighborhood known as Cherry Park.  Charles and she built their home together and later had her only son, Willie.

She loved to travel, play bridge, play scrabble, visit with friends, go to church, garden, and always find time to cook and make so many delicious treats for so many to enjoy. After 43 years she retired from Rose Medical center after serving and caring for so many.  She continued to enjoy all the things that make her happy, but she absolutely loved when she was able to become a grandma.

She is survived by her only child/son Willie Barbour, married to Samantha Barbour and their two children Grayson and Jolie: sisters Dianna Adamson and Nancy Aubin and so many loving nieces and nephews living all over the country.

Services will be held at Mission Hills Church on July 21 @ 10:30 am
