Obituary of Birddella Loraine McKenna

Birddella (Birdie) Loraine McKenna, 79, of Aurora, Colorado passed away peacefully on January 1, 2023 with family by her side.

She was born to Kenneth G. and Mary Katherine Black in Hutchinson, Kansas on January 22, 1943.

Birdie was married to Thomas Charles McKenna in February of 1981 at their home in Aurora, Colorado.

Birdie loved fishing and spending time at her cabin in Wyoming. She also enjoyed painting ceramics, playing slot machines in Black Hawk as well as playing Yahtzee and Scrabble. She was a loving mother and grandma. In recent years, she enjoyed spending her time with her lively grandsons.

Birdie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas McKenna, her parents, Kenneth and Katherine Black, and her sister, Judy Saunders. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Bienemann, two grandsons, Justin and Derek Bienemann, sisters, Evelyn Wilhite, Norma (Jack) Gardner, Vickie Lightner and Kassie Simonton and many other family members and friends.

A viewing and celebration of Birdie’s life will be held on January 19th at Lord of the Hills Lutheran Church 21755 E Smoky Hill Road, Aurora, CO. Viewing is scheduled from 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m.

A reception at Wheatlands Clubhouse 6601 S. Wheatlands Parkway Aurora, CO 80016 will be held immediately after Birdie’s service.
