Obituary of Douglas "Doug" A. Stenlund

Douglas A. Stenlund, 87, of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on February 8th, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock in the morning on Friday, March 17th at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Doug was born in Leonard, Minnesota on September 4, 1935.  He graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado, and received an Associate’s Degree from Metro State University. He married Janet Eagan on April 18th, 1957 in Riverside, California. Doug and Jan were married for 59 years.

Doug was a proud 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force and was awarded various medals of honor. He was stationed in California, Niagara Falls, Berlin, Thailand, and Denver. Denver was his home.

Doug was an avid horticulturist and loved to share his bounty. He is well known in his neighborhood for his amazing tomato plants. He would hand bags to his neighbors to pick their tomatoes. The neighbors loved it! Doug was also a gambler and had many memories of playing the slots at The Lodge in Blackhawk, Colorado. Lady Luck was on his side.

Doug loved Christmas. At one point he estimated 60,000 lights on his house. When he could no longer climb on the roof, he resorted to inflatables, lit-up snowmen, and grandiose Christmas strobe lights. His grandsons would put them up and take them down every year. It was male bonding time.

Doug is preceded in death by his loving wife Jan, sister Virginia Johnson, and brothers Buddy Stenlund, Kenneth Stenlund, Marvin Stenlund, and Coy Horton.

Doug is survived by his daughter Dawn Jordan (Jaime Laviner) and grandchildren Kimberly Patterson (Greg), Mark Jordan (Ayesha), David Jordan, brother Michael Stenlund (Rita), and sister Marlyce Taylor.

Doug is now with his beloved wife, and probably playing a slot machine with a rum and Coke in hand at the Big Casino in the sky!

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud.
