Kevin McCloskey

Obituary of Kevin Richard McCloskey

Kevin Richard McCloskey, 58, of Wheat Ridge, CO passed away unexpectedly at home on January 17, 2023.

Kevin was born on June 20, 1964 in the Bronx, N.Y. to Hugh and Catherine McCloskey. He spent most of his grade school days in Shokan, NY, a small town in the Catskill Mountains. In 1975, Kevin and his family moved to Boca Raton, FL. He attended Boca Raton High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. Kevin worked part-time after school and saved enough money to buy his first car, a '74 Olds Cutlass. Needing to spend more time repairing the car than driving it, he became skilled at doing his own repairs. One day his dad found him with the car on jacks with engine parts spread neatly out on newspapers. When asked how he learned to do engine work his answer was "Oh, it's easy. I bought a service manual and I'm following the instructions."

After graduation, Kevin enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to surveyor training in Fort Sill, OK. At the end of training he received a letter of commendation from his commanding officer for excellence in his work. He worked as a field artillery surveyor and after discharge went on to be a licensed professional land surveyor. He spent many years as a crew chief in Broward and Palm Beach Counties in South Florida.

Kevin moved to Colorado and had the opportunity to work in home restoration. He discovered that he had an exceptional talent for and love of carpentry as well as woodworking. This led him to establish his own business, Wheat Ridge Restoration, in which he thrived.

Kevin loved to read, both for enjoyment and to learn new skills. He learned to play the guitar as a teenager and it became a lifelong passion. He loved all music and enjoyed seeing some of his favorite musicians perform at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, near Denver, especially with his best friend and brother, John.

Kevin is survived by his loving partner, Monica Harmon, parents Hugh and Catherine McCloskey, son Brandon (Lovely) and stepson Jesse (Talia), sisters Eileen Dunne and Sheila (David) Risk, and brother John McCloskey.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, March 3, 2023 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Belleview, FL. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
