Obituary of Donald Ray Furnish

Born November 12, 1932 in Paris, Missouri to John H. Furnish and Myrtle (Million) Furnish.

 

Don married Mary Lurine Clarkson from Shelbina, Missouri in January 1953. He had 3 sons, Donald (Raylean) Furnish, Steven (Candy) Furnish, Richard “Rick” Furnish, and one daughter Kathrine (Richard) Wilson. 

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary of 68 years, John Furnish (father), Myrtle Furnish (mother), Chester Furnish (brother), Paul Furnish (brother), Mae Vanzant (sister), and son Richard Allen Furnish. Besides his children, he had and enjoyed numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

 

Don graduated from Mexico High School in Mexico, MO in 1950 then after served in the Army for two years. After his service he moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he was employed in the retail and heavy equipment construction industry.

While in Cheyenne he serviced as a church deacon for the First Christian Church, and volunteered for many positions for the Boy Scouts of America.

 

After a move to Colorado Springs Colorado, Don enjoyed many years as a Maintenance Superintendent in the heavy equipment construction industry. Don served on the Heavy Vehicle Advisory Committee for Pikes Peak Community College for 6 years.

After retirement, Don and his wife enjoyed traveling in a motorhome for 7 years. They were very active square dancers and enjoyed many friends and meeting new friends for 40 plus years while square dancing. After traveling, they made their home in Aurora, Colorado for 7 years, then moved back to Colorado Springs. 

 

Don will be missed by his many family members and friends.
