Life’s Road

Walter J Greene Sr.

 

Walter J Greene Sr. was born on March 28th, 1932 in Pittsburg Pennsylvania, to the late Helen Beckham-Phillips and John Walter Lipscomb.  He was adopted by Jerry Greene and raised by his Grandfather the late Lawrence Nathan Philips.  Walter had a sister, Mary Evelyn Greene and two brothers, Roland Henry Turner and Alberta Turner.

Raised in Pittsburg he earned his G.E.D. and entered the Armed Services, joining the United States Air Force on May 17, 1951.

Following completion of his basic Training, Walter was assigned to Craig Air Force Base, located in Selma, Alabama.  He met and married Annie Mae Brown and subsequently completed training as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician for the Voodoo 101, T-37, T-38 jet fighters, and many other special vehicle repairs.

Walter was transferred to several overseas assignments with the Air Force in Azores/Portugal, Loan AFB/France, two tours in Upper Heyford/England, two tours in Laughlin AFB/Del Rio/Texas, Lowry AFB/Denver/Colorado, Thailand/Indochina, and Peterson AFB/Colorado Springs/Colorado.  Following his retirement from the United States Air Force in 1972, Walter became a member of Law Enforcement and joined the Denver Sheriff’s Department.

He loved being with friends, was most at home repairing a broken-down car, and loved a good cigar.

Walter was called home on Monday, February 20th, 2023.  He was with us for 91 years and passed peacefully while under the care of his son Lawrence and the Holly Heights Nursing Care Center. He is survived by two sons; six grand-children; 5 great grand-children; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
