Obituary of Irene Rettig Wiggins

Irene Rettig Wiggins was born in Grand Junction Colorado to Adolph and Delcietta (Etta) Rettig on June 24, 1928. Irene graduated from Grand Junction High in 1946, where she met her future husband James E. Wiggins.

 Irene graduated from the Denver Women’s college with her BA in English. Then she started her own kindergarten in Grand Junction. After moving back to Denver Irene earned her Master’s in English at University of Northern Colorado, while simultaneously raising her two children.

Irene went on to teach at Malley elementary school. After retiring she spent her golden years traveling the US by motorcycle and RV. Irene spent her remaining years after the death of her husband traveling to Alaska, England, and Germany and enjoying her final year living with her granddaughter Rachel in the comfort of her own home. She passed in her sleep on March 30, 2023.

She is survived by her two children Andrew Wiggins and Cheryl Woehrle (Terry Woehrle), sister Marilyn Pfleiderer, and three grandchildren; Rachel Wiggins, Rhea Wiggins, and Chris Woehrle. Memorial services will be held at 1:15 PM , June 22, 2023 at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Please meet at Staging Area C by 1PM.
