Obituary of Richard Wayne Dailey

Richard (Dick) was born in Elwood, Kansas – April 29,1931 to Ottis Leo Dailey and Amy Marshall Dailey.  He left this life, in peace, to join his Heavenly Father November 24,1923

He was predeceased by two brothers in infancy, wife Dixie Lee Hayes Dailey, and son Stephen Lee Dailey. He is survived by his son Mark Dailey, Grandson Samual Brock Dailey (Jules), along with numerous cousins and many distant relatives.

He attended Elwood Kansas High School, graduated Central High School, St. Joseph, Missouri and continued his education at St. Joseph, MO Junior College in Business Administration.  After serving in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict in France and Germany he married and moved to Colorado Springs in 1953 to begin a career in Banking.  During his career he attended several Banking schools and Seminars at Ohio University, American Institute of Banking, Harvard School of Business, and Graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at University of Colorado-Boulder, and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

He retired as Senior Vice President from Wells Fargo Bank after 40 years in banking with experience in all phases of banking including Consumer lending, Trust Department, International Banking, Commercial Banking, Investments, and senior management.

He was active in the community serving on many boards and committees including three local banks, Colo. Springs Chamber of Commerce, Colo. Springs Economic Development Committee, Industrial Bond Committee, Downtown Development Committee, Colorado Springs/ El Paso County Drainage Board, Pikes Peak United Way, American Red Cross, Pikes Peak Family Counseling and Mental Health Association, El Paso County Health Association, Broadmoor Community Church Board of Trustees, Broadmoor Community Church Foundation.

He was a Member of Colorado Springs Country Club, Garden of the Gods Club, The Rocky Mountain Club, Robert Morris Association, Argonauts, Knights of the Round Table Service Club, Winter Night Club, World Affairs Council, Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region, Home Builders Association of CS, Colorado Springs Board of Realtors, American Legion Post 5 (70+ yrs.), Old Colorado City Historical Society, and Volunteered for the local chapter Alzheimer's Association for many years in many areas including facilitating Support Groups.

Throughout life he enjoyed woodworking, nature, hiking, biking, skiing, bird watching, boating, square dancing, bowling, and traveling.  Later in life his go-to’s were mountain drives to experience the magic of the changing seasons and all the beauty of Colorado, checkers, bingo, and cornhole (his favorite)!

His purpose in life was to help others and felt he had done so by serving on the many boards & committees of the community, establishing the Bereavement Team and Alzheimer's Support Group at Broadmoor Community church, working in a bank as a loan officer helping borrowers achieve their goals in life. For example, he financed the first Wendy's in Colorado Springs and the first MRI machine to be used in the city, helped to bring the Colo. Springs Airport to fruition …. among thousands of other notable contributions throughout the community and the Pikes Peak Region.

His support for Community, Faith, Family and Friendship will be truly missed as will his down-to-earth advice and wisdom.
