Gary (Hammer) Hammerlund

Obituary of Gary (Hammer) Howard Hammerlund

Gary (Hammer) Howard Hammerlund, 83, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, at Denver Hospice, surrounded by his children. He was born on September 18, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Howard and Barbara (Williams) Hammerlund and brother to Gene Hammerlund, Adrienne (Bill) Rickhoff, Barbarakay (Wayne) Tanner, and Glen (Dair) Hammerlund.

Gary graduated from Patrick Henry High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving from 1958 to 1961. After his time in the Marine Corps, Gary pursued various jobs in different industries before finding his true calling in the golf industry. He worked as a salesman at L.L Johnson Distribution Company for 38 years, where he built lifelong friendships throughout the golf industry and a love for the game. Gary's passion for golf led him to found The Y.T.B.N. (Yet to Be Named) Golf Tournament, in 1990 which was held at least annually (sometimes twice a year for additional fun) at golf courses around Colorado.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gary was devoted to his family, a sports enthusiast-he never missed a game or an opportunity to cheer on his kids and grandkids, an avid golfer, and a master joke teller. He will be remembered by friends and family as a loving and supportive Dad, a caring, goofy, and enthusiastic Papa, and a loyal and honorable friend.

Gary will be dearly missed by his children Heidi (Kenny) Troutman, Andrew Hammerlund, and Amy (Steven) Bozek, as well as his five cherished grandchildren, Stella, Wyatt, Patrick, Nora, and Elleanor. He is survived by two children from his first marriage Ann (Phillip) Trommeter and Mark Hammerlund, his siblings-Gene, Adrienne, and Barbarakay, brother in laws Bill and Wayne, nieces, and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Barbara, his brother Glen, and his nephew Jonathan.

Cremation will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Tee program, the Colorado Rocky Mountain chapter an organization that Gary felt strongly about.
