Obituary of William Francis Trapp

William Francis Trapp "Bill" passed away on January 24, 2024. He had just celebrated his 88th birthday. Bill was born January 16, 1936 in Washington DC to Francis "Bud" Trapp and Frances Marie Quinn. His siblings were: Theodore (Ted), George Anthony (Tony), Norma and Eleanor who all precede him in death.

Bill grew up in the DC area – in 1939 his family moved from DC to Mount Vernon prior to relocating to Falls Church in 1945. He went to Woodlawn Elementary School until 3rd grade and then St. James Catholic School from 4th to 8th grade. He attended Gonzaga College High School Class of ’54. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) in 1960 earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. He played the tuba in the Highty Tighty Marching Band at VPI.

Bill served in the Army Ordnance Corp and was stationed at Ft. Stewart in Georgia from 1960 to 1962. Following his military service, he was employed by the Potomac Electric Power Company for 33 years and was the Manager of Systems Planning for 20 years retiring in 1995.

In 1968, he married Peggy Mason (deceased) and resided in McLean, VA until 2021. He was the father to Molly Weidner (Mark) and Megan Keane (Ken) and Papa to Madison and Mason Weidner and Parker and Wyatt Keane. He was Uncle Bill to many.

Bill was a member of St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church in McLean for 53 years. He enjoyed mechanical things – he worked in a garage from the age of 11 eventually becoming a certified auto mechanic. He was involved in the Pepco Federal Credit Union for 24 years becoming President in 1971. Clock repair was a treasured hobby. In 1990, he joined the Potomac Guild. Bill served on the Board of Directors for the Horological Association of Virginia becoming President 2001-2003. In 2006, he joined the McLean Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) and served as Chairman. He also served on the Fairfax County Police Chief’s CAC representing the McLean District. He always enjoyed playing a round of golf with friends.
