Obituary of Freddie Wayne Hillegass

Freddie Hillegass, age 73, sadly passed away on February 7, 2024 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born on July 17, 1950 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to parents Oscar Earl Hillegass and Ruby Esther Ringler Hillegass.

Freddie enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 17, 1968 after graduating from Johnstown Christian School and retired January 31, 1990. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. While stationed in Thailand Freddie met the love of his life Tongchan “Penny” Hillegass and they married on March 21, 1975.

After retirement he worked as a civilian federal employee at Peterson Space Force Base and Schriever Space Force Base. He retired on January 30, 2021 with a total of 52.5 years of service to the United States Air Force.

He was a loving and faithful husband, father, papa and great grandpa and had the biggest heart. An animal lover he adored his kitten Genesis and dog Max. He was so unique and everyone that met him and knew him always said how unique Freddie truly was.

Preceding Freddie in death are his parents Oscar and Ruby Hillegass, brother Robert Hillegass, grandson Isaiah Thomas and great-grandson A.J. Birks.

Those left behind to cherish Freddie’s memory are loving wife of 49 years Tongchan “Penny” Hillegass, daughter Cindy (Bradley) Oswald, granddaughter Danya Goodell, grandson Drake Goodell, great-granddaughter Aaliyah Birks and great-grandson Kai Knight. Son Daniel Hillegass and granddaughter Peyton Hillegass. Daughter Kristie (Joshua) Thomas, and granddaughters TyLynn and Jordan Thomas. Sister Janet Gehman (Mahlon).

Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 2:00PM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Blvd. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
