Bill, today we witnessed as you were given full military honors. It was an honor to be there in support of you and your wife, my good friend and mentor, Brenda. As I look back on memories, I see your smile, the way you walked with your huge muscles :-), and your genuine smile. You would walk into records to escort your beautiful wife to lunch. You'd always enter with a smile and say, "how goes it kiddo?" Then you'd walk over to your wife and call her some sweet pet name. She'd have a smile every time you walked through that door to get her too. The love you both shared will be forever be engraved in my heart. You both gave me hope that couples really do stay in love. You were a good man, great co-worker, protector and good friend to many, but one thing I will remember you by is the love you gave her. People would complain about how much vacation time you both took from work (we were all really just innocently jealous). Looking back, I sure am glad you guys took that time! Life is short and what a blessing it was that you both took time from work to enjoy one another. Blessing are hard to find when in pain. I pray Brenda can find moments of beauty and smile, reflecting on the love you gave her. It was noticed by ALL of us! You left behind a lot of examples on how to be a good man. Thank you for being you Bill!
Brenda, no words are good enough and no words will ever fill that hole in your heart. Just know you are loved. You are respected and thought of dearly. You have taught me so much about life, work, love and family. I don't know what it is like to lose someone who loved you as Bill did, but I know what it is like to lose someone you love. I know the journey isn't easy. Just remember, it is normal to be a mess. It is okay to cry or not cry and it is most certainly okay to smile and laugh too. Crying, sobbing, anger, numbness and joy is all part of loving someone so special. It's okay to fall apart. Just remember to get up again, even if it means to just fall apart again. You're a strong woman, even in weakness. I hope you learn ways to live for the both of you! I'm around if you ever want to talk. I miss our records conversations. You're in my prayers and will always have a special spot in my heart friend.
Bill, when I visit my son at Ft. Logan, I'll also be thinking of you too. Hope you get to meet him up there! He's a spunky like his momma. :-)
Thank you for what you shared with all of us....Love and friendship!
Love you both,
Michelle Padilla

Bill was my friend and a Brother you could count on when things went bad. He had my back on more than one occasion and for that I'm eternally grateful. The world will be a sadder place without him. My most sincere condolences to his wife and family.

I remember Bill way back in 1992. I was a new deputy sheriff at the County Jail and I was assigned to work a partner unit with him in a felon pod. Bill immediately struck this new deputy (ME) as a cool, genuine, sincere and friendly man! I almost immediately could tell what kind of man he was just by how kind and sincere that he was. People who know Bill will know that this is the real deal...that he was a great guy. I went on to know both Bill and his brother Jim - whom I love very much as a brother in law enforcement. I went on to the PD but I would run into Bill at the DDC many times and it was always the same thing...a cheerful reunion with the same genuine, sincere, kind man that I met in 1992! My heart broke when I heard the news and I could not believe it. I decided that I would remember Bill as the very great guy that he was and pray for his friends and family. So happy that I got to meet and know Bill Lovato!

2004. The year my life was changed forever. DSD was not what I imagined, it was dirty, violent, horrible hours ,no weekends, no holidays and a whole bunch of deputies I didn't know. I missed my life and my family. Slowly I started to adjust and make new friends at this PADF place. The laughter I heard every night was no longer noise. I started to find myself drawn to the photo desk ...what were they laughing about every single night ? What was bringing so much joy in the place of gloom and horror? In the center of it all was this man, Built like a tank, intimidating in size, perfectly groomed and looking sharp in his uniform. Deputies around him like moths to the light. Through the years I became a moth and his light was addictive. Billy became my friend and my brother. I was inspired by his love for Brenda, his brothers and sisters in blue . He listened to me and always made me laugh when things were not so good in my life. I enjoyed every moment I got to work the 'TRASH TRUCK " with him we laughed so much the hours felt like seconds...I hoped on day I would find a love like him and Brenda , every time they laid eyes on each other it was all smiles from ear to ear...his number 1 moth, and lunch date every day. Billy the day you left us it was felt beyond words, souls were crushed and hearts were broken forever. It was an honor to know you,but a true gift and blessing to be your sister. You will forever be loved and missed. Brenda I can't even.........

To Brenda, Sandy and the entire Lovato Family,
Rick and I are heartbroken over the loss of Bill, truly one of the most wonderful people who worked at the DSD. We have both worked with his family members for many years at the DSD, going back to the early 1980's. I have wonderful memories of working with Bill for many years at PADF where he was the epitomy of professionalism in everything he did. I also remember his great humor and kindness to all.
Brenda, my sincerest condolences to you and to all the Lovato family. He will always be remembered as truly one of the great ones.

I first met Bill when I became a sergeant 20 years ago at the old City Jail (PADF). As a rookie supervisor, some of the deputies gave me a hard time. There were a few like Ronnie Stevens, Lisa Foos, Glen Hill, Troy Motley and many others who helped me out from day one. Bill was one of them! He was always truly a caring, dedicated DSD soldier who did his job, everyday...every day with a smile. God bless his soul as he is now with our Father and our Savior.
To Brenda and the rest of his family, please know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. May He be with you during this time.

I will always treasure our times pumping iron downtown after working the swing shift at the county, kicking it at the east end telling war stories and horror stories, laughing at each other and your smile. I will miss you my brother, Semper Fidelis forevermore. May God bless you, my deepest condolences to Brenda and the entire Lovato family.

Bill, It was an honor knowing you and working with you. When I was first promoted to sergeant and was assigned to PADF, you made it a point to welcome me aboard and to offer your assistance in any way you could. I always remembered that, and I will be forever grateful. Semper Fi, Brother.

Bill was such a great guy. Always willing to help out and genuinely cared about everyone around him. Brenda and Bill would bring a drink to work called lizard spit, it was the worst tasting thing ever. But he was still willing to share it everyday! We will miss you so much!

I've known this great Lovato Family for over 25 years, after Jim & I Graduated West High in 1986, Jim, Bill & I reunited at PADF in 1994, where we made so many great memories & ohhh so many Laughs, shooting pool in Jims basement after our graveyard shift was one of my personal favorite, the Lovatos took me in as Family & the times they took me to their Family town of Watrous New Mexico on a few occasional weekends showing this City kid what bright stars & campfires is really like will remain with me forever, over the past year I had that Honor again working with Bill at Denver Health, he continued to be the Mentor I always seen in him from Day one, I wanted to be calm, cool & collective on the job just as he perfected it, a month before Bill's retirement, I talked Brenda into taking this picture of Bill & I so I can always Cherish it & remind myself to finish this crazy career of ours just like him, at his time & his way. I Love you Brother Bill, save me a spot at your swimming pool! "I love you too bro & I'll see you in Arizona!" were our last words to each other on his retirement day, and I will forever be grateful he knew the Love, Respect & Admiration I had for him from the 1st day we met.

To my brother Bill. You’re going to be missed by so many. I will always remember working with you and enjoying a bbq or two the pranks we use to play on each other and on others at padf.
I’ll never forget your laugh and how I always let you get away calling me jimmy, knowing now much I hated it. I love you brother. Rest in eternal peace, we have it from here, bro.

Bill Lovato was my Brother and my great friend and he meant so very much to me. And I was just his friend. In his life, Bill touched so many people and was so loved by everyone. He was everything you wanted and needed in a friend. Warm, compassionate, loving, funny, sarcastic, and the greatest whistler I’ve ever known. Thanks for being my Pal Billy Boy. I know there were days where I made it harder than others to be my friend, and those days you never left me. I’ll remember forever our many many nights in the FO, laughing all night and gettin our jobs done... and building the retaining wall in your back yard and drinking that awesome cold tea Brenda couldn’t make enough of... I loved being your friend and I love you and I’ll miss you Bill but... Pal, If there’s a beach in heaven, and lifetimes pass in the blink of an eye up there, save me One of the seats next to you. I’m walking up the beach just now, to see you again Brother, one of the best men I’ve ever known. TD S95002
