Writing to and about Mr. Atencio: I first met Mr. Atencio over 11 years ago with Kristina. Talking with Mr. Atencio was very enjoyable. He had been through so much in his life, and his upbringing was very harsh. This was something we both could empathize with each other. I will never share the details of this conversation, but just as Kristina wrote, “Mr. Atencio is a true man of honor and integrity.” I met his youngest son, Johnny, back in 2004. Meeting Johnny has been such a blessing. Johnny said in his eulogy, for his Dad, that Us “ladies did so much for him, too difficult to put into words” – what Johnny has done for Us is difficult to put into words. Johnny and I have been through so much through the years and his loving kindness, strength, understanding, love, and caring are unmatched, until I met his Dad. Just like Kristina, Johnny is my friend and has been my loving partner. We have shared so much, but Johnny’s great attributes – and we know this – came from his Dad, from Mr. Atencio.
Thank you Mr. Atencio for your advice during the dark years, during my losses. Thank you for sharing your skills in the [redacted] arts that involve our line of work. Thank you for your service to our country and the secrets you kept for the rest of your days. Thank you for giving us a wonderful person in your son. His care of both you and Mrs. Atencio, then later you, is something rarely seen and known. The hospice nurse (Marcella) told us that Johnny did the work of three, 24/7. We will miss you Mr. Atencio. May you and Mrs. Atencio both rest in peace in our true Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ.
**La bondad amorosa de nuestro Señor está con usted, y estará con usted y la Sra. Atencio para siempre.

I, along with Heather, first met Mr. Atencio over 11 years ago. He was so kind, respectful, and highly knowledgeable about a great many things that we discussed. Over the years, I was able to stay in touch with Mr. Atencio, receiving updates from my beautiful Johnny(boy). I am thankful that I was able to visit Mr. Atencio just days before his passing. We had a brief conversation that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Like my father, Mr. Atencio is a true man of honor and integrity. We all thank Mr. Atencio for his service to our country. As a man of honor, he kept the secrets entrusted to him for the protection of our country, and stood fast to the Constitution of our United States. Mr. Atencio raised an incredible, loving, kind, and strong son in Johnny(boy). Johnnyboy (I love typing that name) has not only been my friend, but is also my love, and my loving partner. Johnnyboy has not only treated me with great love and kindness, but also to Heather, Katherine, Jessica, Julianna, Isabella, and to all our families. We know it is difficult for him, for us, to be apart.
I will miss Mr. Atencio. I know he would have made a great and loving Grandfather and father in law. With love…when the time comes, we will see each other again. God bless you Mr. and Mrs. Atencio.

My condolences to Jonny and Leonard. Thank you for letting me participate in caring for John. He was an amazing man. He was a survivor. He learned so young how to survive and what was important in life. He had many pearls of wisdom. I am blessed to have known him even though it was brief. I commend Johnny for his loving care.

Leonard and Johnny, I am so sorry for your loss and my heart is with you today. Your father was an important part of our neighborhood growing up and was always a welcoming spirit for anyone he came across. He will be dearly missed in this neighborhood. With love and sympathy, Mary Schmuki

I miss you every single day Dad. Thank you for everything - your loving kindness, wisdom, caring, helping me through difficult times. I am so thankful we were close my whole life. You were my best friend. I miss our conversations, the laughing, your stories, and your advice. I am thankful I was able to take care of both you and Mom. We shared so much. Without you, I'd be nothing. I love you Dad and miss you. It is so painful. Love you Dad. See you very soon.
